Who Should You Tip?
1. Safari Driver/Guide
Your guide is with you every step of the way, sharing knowledge and ensuring your safety.
💰 Recommended Tip: $10–$20 per day, per guest
2. Safari Cook (on camping safaris)
Cooks prepare your meals in remote locations under tough conditions.
💰 Recommended Tip: $5–$10 per day, per guest
3. Porters (if climbing Kilimanjaro or Meru)
Porters carry your gear and help set up camp.
💰 Recommended Tip: $6–$10 per day, per porter
4. Mountain Guides & Cooks
Lead guides and assistant guides during a trek deserve appreciation.
💰 Lead Guide: $20 per day
💰 Assistant Guide: $10–$15 per day
💰 Mountain Cook: $10–$15 per day
5. Hotel & Camp Staff
For general staff at lodges and tented camps.
💰 Recommended Tip: $5–$10 per stay, placed in a shared tip box if available
Tipping Tips
Cash in USD or Tanzanian Shillings is accepted — small denominations are ideal.
Tip at the end of your safari or trek, in person when possible.
Group tips are fine, especially if you’re traveling as a family or small group.
